A great summer activity for your child is to start thinking about your Reflections entry for 2017-2018. More information coming from Heights PTA this fall.
The RISD Board of Trustees met on June 12 for a board meeting and public hearing on the 2017-18 operating budget. While State tax revenues continue to go up due to increased property valuations, State allocation for RISD operating budget was decreased by over $6 million.
For additional details on approved RISD 2017 / 18 budget and other news, see June 12th issue of RISD School Times.
Don't forget to READ over the summer! Did you know that daily reading over the summer strengthens the literary skills developed during the school year? Make trips to the library part of your summer plans, and while you're there sign up for the Richardson library's Summer Reading Program! Turn in your reading log to the city library by August 12 to be added to Mrs. Nowaki's list of Summer Readers. She will reward readers when school starts in the Fall!
THANK YOU to everyone who has helped out or even just had an active interest in the school garden over this past year. We have truly made a great deal of progress and hope to continue next year in our efforts to provide a beautiful and productive space for our students, teachers and staff to enjoy.
Also, thank you to everyone that donated eggs and plants, came to shop and overall supported our annual STUDENT FARMERS MARKET. The market raised $91.25, which will be saved for next year's garden club. The kids were very enthusiastic and were quite happy when they got to take home some of the left over plants. Its so nice to see kids get excited over basil.

James Wand, magician extraordinaire was in Heights today on a quest to keep our children reading during his Operation Read More magic show.
