In honor of Earth Day Week, all kindergarten and first grade classes had an opportunity to come out to the school garden on the mornings of April 19-21. A Dallas County Master Gardener gave lessons on how plants grow, soil, and the role of worms in soil building. The students got to see and touch red wiggler worms (from an indoor vermicomposting system) and they dug in the garden to find the more common earthworms known as "night crawlers". Yucky and slimy, but fun and educational for all!
On Friday April 21, with the help of PACE students and parent volunteers, the students put together a "Trash to Art" piece from the many bottle caps students collected over the previous two weeks. The kids were very enthusiastic and left their touch on the final piece. The final art piece (the first picture below) will be hung on a wall in the school garden to view for the remainder of the year. All Heights Elementary students (K-6) are invited to prepare a skit / song / act to audition for the annual school Talent Show scheduled for May 25th at 6:30 p.m. We have some talented kids in our school and this is a perfect opportunity to show off! All participants must turn in completed permission slip no later then Friday, April 21st, 3 p.m. To print the Talent Show Rules and the Permission form, Click Here>>

The purpose is to clean up the park, streets, and alleys in Richardson Heights. Come by the park, check in, get trash and recycle bags, and pick a street or alley. Once you have your bags full, return them to the park. |
